Developing the Next Generation

“The least of you shall become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation” (Isaiah 60:22 NIV).

LEADERS SHOULD ALWAYS be investing in the next generation of leaders. A great leader will be developing his or her replacement because their focus is on fulfilling a vision, not maintaining power or position.

“Leaders who develop followers grow their organization one person at a time. But leaders who develop leaders multiply their growth because they grow by teams and not individuals. It is the difference between addition and multiplication” (John Maxwell).

For a movement to have a lasting impact in a city or a nation, we need to be intentional about developing leaders. Leadership begins with one person discipling or mentoring another person. This is followed by equipping these disciples with mature teaching and accountability. The goal of leadership development is for each leader to follow Christ, serve others, and lead teams that will expand the Kingdom in the marketplace.

Who are the individual(s) you are developing as future leaders in your sphere(s) of influence? The verse above demonstrates the power of one person. They can influence a thousand and ultimately nations. Wow! What an impact. This is discipleship lived out.

“God commands these people, made in His image, to multiply so that they, and thus God’s image, will fill the earth.” — Daniel Fuller

The devotion above was taken from the 52-week Devotional entitled “Experiencing Christ as Life and Leader”.

Many give a mental assent to this teaching yet are often asking, “What do I do? What does Christ as life look like?“ Too often Christians err by moving too far to one side or the other—reducing the Christian life to a list of do’s and don’ts, or they actually do nothing.

These inspiring weekly devotions are just some of the actions that reflect the life of Christ in each of us, and they explore four areas as we follow the One Leader, Jesus Christ –

  • A Foundational Focus
  • A Personal Focus
  • A Relational Focus
  • A Missional Focus

Be challenged, encouraged, and spurred on to a deeper walk with Christ.
